Head to the beach

“Smell the sea and see the sky, let your soul and spirit fly” Van Morrison We’re great fans of the beach here at Northcourt and can thoroughly recommend it in winter or summer for long walks, big skies, and much more besides. For those of you who love a walk then there’s nothing better than feeling the sun on your face and the wind in your hair as you stroll along beside the sea. Escape from the confines of indoors, get your winter woollies and wellies on, and follow the Island’s coastal path to Chiltern Chine – our favourite winter beach spot. To the west of the village of Brighstone within a 10-minute drive of Northcourt, it is a small coastal gully created by stream erosion of soft Cretaceous rocks and brilliant for rock pooling and fossil hunting at low tide. In the summer months, we love to go to Compton Farm – just a 15-minute drive away. A mere quarter of a mile away from the farm is Compton Bay, a surfer’s paradise at high tide and a beachcomber’s at low. Rock pooling, sandcastles, and good old-fashioned beach activities like picnics, swimming, and sunbathing are all on the agenda as it is south-facing and so catches all of the sun. But don’t just leave Compton until the summer, explore in winter too! And here are just a few more reasons why you should visit the beach in winter or summer… The minerals and salt in seawater soothe aching joints. Workout in the waves. Playing those beach games. Vital vitamin D. Soaking up that sun is necessary for our bodies to function well. Clear the mental clutter. Technology detox. A great place to contemplate and meditate. So, come and stay with us, enjoy all that the Island has to offer, smell the sea and feel the sky and feel reinvigorated.
Book with confidence

While the world might feel a little uncertain, you can still book your stay with us in complete confidence. If, due to coronavirus-related UK legislation and we are unable to provide the house as offered (due to legal travel restrictions or we are forced to close) then you will have two options: full refund of all monies paid; or transfer the booking to another date. We continue to follow guidance from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and the Professional Association of Self-Caterers (PASC). Please ask us for full terms and conditions.
The new normal #ruleofsix
Well that was good whilst it lasted….! We have had a wonderful summer and it has been great to be able to share the house again with so many lovely, appreciative guests, as we get used to a new normal. With the new Government legal restrictions coming into force from Monday 14th September 2020, unfortunately and with real sadness, we will not be able to take bookings over the autumn/winter for more than 6 people (or more if a single household, or if joined with a ‘linked’ family). So if you are looking for a self-catering property with large bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, and lots of space to socially distance, in a magnificent manor house located on the rural Isle of Wight, then look no further! We are offering significantly reduced rates to reflect these new low-occupancy requirements. We, like many others, firmly believe that a self-catering holiday on the Isle of Wight is the perfect way to get away from the crowds and spend time as a family or your closest friends in a safe environment. The Island has so much gorgeous countryside to offer, with walking, cycling, sailing, surfing and exploring, and Northcourt offers plenty of space away from others. We are ensuring that the property is cleaned and sanitised to the COVID Ready Guidelines from PASC UK (Professional Association of Self-Caterers of whom we are members) and Visit Britain. We submitted information for approval to Visit Britain and have been awarded ‘We’re Good to Go’ COVID-19 Industry Standard. As part of this, we have produced a COVID-19 Guest Charter, which outlines what we are doing to keep everyone safe, and what measures we expect from you (please do ask for us to send you a copy). Please note, all future bookings will be made under our existing rental terms and conditions, but you can rest easy in the knowledge that we would look to reintroduce more flexible terms should there be a repeat of any pandemic travel restrictions. We look forward to welcoming you to Northcourt, under this ‘new normal’. Oh… and if you are looking for a big group to stay in anticipation that we get back to a slightly better ‘new normal’, and if you manage to find any gaps in our availability calendar for 2021, then please do contact us.
